The Great Kapok Tree drama activity

This week Team 5 have started their new English unit of Stories from Other Cultures.

Their focus text is The Great Kapok Tree where a man travels to the rain forest wanting to chop down the tree. Along the way, the boy meets several animals who told him all the reasons why not to chop down the tree.

Anti Bullying Week

This week has been Anti Bullying week at Charlestown. This year the theme is “Let’s make a noise about bullying”. To raise awareness and promote our zero tolerance to bullying, Team 5 have taken part in many activities across the week, such as citizenship debates, working with a theatre company and writing instructions on how to create the perfect recipe for friendship.

The children have been learning the official Stand Up against bullying song.

Remember to do do if we see someone being bullied:

  • Tell a teacher, parent or another adult.
  • Tell the person bullying to stop what they are saying or doing (you can do this on your own or with a friend).
  • Call the person being bullied over. Ask them to play with you or ask them about what’s been happening.

Team 5 this week have had so much fun creating their sports kits.

Instructions homework

Hello Team 5,

This week I would like you to write a set of instructions for something that you do a lot. It might be instructions for getting ready for school in the morning or instructions for making your favourite sandwich!

Remember to include:

Title – to tell what the instructions are about.

Introduction – to introduce the instructions. Try to include a rhetorical question.

Numbered steps/bullet points – to order the instructions.

A range of imperative verbs – only use each one once e.g. mix, chop, stir, slice.

Time conjunctions e.g. first, after.

Adverbs e.g. quickly chop the carrot.

Make sure you have made your instructions as clear as possible.

Designing our sports wear

We have been very busy in Team 5 designing our own sports wear.

The children examined different styles of sports kit and were inspired to design their own!

Next week the children will be using their designs to create their own sports kit.

Please can we remind you to bring in either a white vest or t shirt.

Thanks,

Miss Woodward 🙂
