What an amazing day we have had!

Team 5 have been lucky enough to visit the amazing Communitree. We were there to learn more about our topic of ‘Surviving the Stone Age’. We learnt about the shelters people would have used, the food they would have eaten and we even got to try some campfire cooking to give us a taste of what it would have been like. We spent the whole day in the forest, and we all loved getting involved with the mud!

The children were a credit to the school and themselves with the way they behaved and engaged with the activities straight away.

Thank you to Danny and Rihannon for such an enjoyable and interesting day!

eSafety – Spring Term 2018

This week, the children have been involved in eSafety sessions.

Firstly, thank you to all of the parents who attended these sessions. It is important that the children are aware of these issues and seeing parents at these sessions, makes it clear that the messages we give at school are also being talked about at home.

They have been reminded of the importance to stay safe online and to tell our trusted adults if we see or hear anything online that upsets us or anything that makes us feel sad, angry or worried.

I therefore have some further information for you regarding this important issue. Safer Internet Advice to Parents. This information helps parents with what to do if your child sees something upsetting online.

It has been made explicitly clear to the children that if they are unsure about anything, or worried, scared, lonely or upset, they should tell one of their trusted adults at home or school to try to help them out. I hope the information above and the links which are included in that post are useful in dealing with the sometimes difficult conversations that can come up if children do see or hear anything which they shouldn’t, online.

Below, you will find links to the quiz which was used in the sessions, along with the answers to these questions. I hope you find these useful. The children should know the answers, as they have been more fully explained during the eSafety sessions.

If you have any questions or queries relating to the eSafety sessions which have taken place this week, please do not hesitate to find Mr Higginbotham around school.

Thank you.

Model Making

Well done to the children who have been completing their homework for our Europe topic this half term.

Some children have made amazing models of some of Europe’s most famous landmarks! Aren’t they amazing!!!!

Can you guess what landmarks they have made?

Mirror maze

We had lots of fun in science this week! We were learning about reflection and how mirrors work.

We completed an activity where we had to draw a wiggly line on the floor, and by looking only in the mirror, walk along the line!

This was tricky because the mirror makes everything look the opposite because the mirror shows a mirror image!

Nutrition talk

Today we had a talk about nutrition from the ladies at Manchester Fayre!

They told us all about the amount of sugar that is in some foods. We know that we should only have 6 cubes of sugar in one day. They also showed us an app called Sugar Smart which can be used to scan different foods and tell us how much sugar is in them.

We were even able to hold some “fat”! It was disgusting!

Thank you for coming in to talk to us!

Europe topic launch

This week we started our new topic, Europe!

We loved using travel brochures to book our own holiday with our friends to a European destination. We then went to get our euros from the Beaurau de Change and went to passport control! After we had done all this, we went to board a plane from Charlestown Airport.

Amazing Athens

Thank you to Isabelle for bringing in this amazing model of Athens that she completed at home over the half term!

We had some fantastic homework brought in last half term so well done to all the children and thank you to the parents and carers who have helped them.

Our topic this half term is Europe, and the children have some new research journal tasks to try.

You can find a copy of this in the homework folder on the blog.

Thank you for your support.

Can you see in the dark?

This week, we launched our new science topic- light!

We thought about what light is and which objects are sources of light. We got a bit stuck when thinking about the moon, which is actually a reflector of light and not a source!

After this, we tried to use our senses to tell what things were without seeing them! Miss Marsden even turned the lights off to make it even darker. What fun we had!

Polling day!

Good luck to the student council candidates across the school this week!

We went down to the polling station today to place our votes. The children were able to vote for one of the year 3 children who had been shortlisted. In our class this was Angela and Keira.

If they are elected, the children will have an important role in the school by representing the children and speaking out about important issues.
